From Our Designer

The marquise cut engagement ring offers a distinctive silhouette that combines vintage glamour with a uniquely flattering shape. Here's why this cut continues to captivate brides:

  • Maximum Carat Impact: The elongated shape makes it appear larger than other cuts of the same carat weight — giving you more visual sparkle for your budget.
  • Finger-Elongating Effect: The pointed ends create a vertical line that optically lengthens the finger, especially flattering for shorter fingers.
  • Vintage Royal Heritage: Commissioned by King Louis XIV of France, this cut carries centuries of regal romance and timeless elegance.
  • Versatile Style Range: From classic solitaires to vintage halo designs and modern bezel settings, the marquise adapts beautifully to any aesthetic.
  • Excellent Brilliance: With 56 carefully angled facets, the marquise cut delivers exceptional fire and brilliance that rivals round brilliants.

Whether you're drawn to its royal history or its smart optical benefits, the marquise cut engagement ring is a statement of timeless elegance with a distinctly modern edge.

Expert Guides

The marquise cut's distinctive pointed ends require thoughtful setting choices that protect the tips while showcasing the stone's elegant silhouette. Here are the most popular setting styles:

  • Bezel Setting: A metal rim fully encircles the stone, offering maximum protection for the delicate points. Sleek and modern.
  • V-Inspired Prong Setting: V-shaped prongs cradle the pointed ends while allowing maximum light exposure. Classic and secure.
  • Halo Setting: A diamond halo enhances perceived size while offering additional tip protection. Maximum sparkle.
  • Three-Stone Setting: Flanked by two smaller side stones, this trilogy ring guards the points while symbolizing past, present, and future.
  • Cathedral Setting: Arched bands rise to meet the center stone, reinforcing the setting structure around the marquise's tips for extra security.

FAQs

For the classic, most visually balanced oval silhouette, a length-to-width ratio between 1.35 and 1.50 is highly recommended. Ratios around 1.40 represent the perfect industry standard, providing a beautiful elongated shape that flatters the hand without appearing too narrow. If you prefer a wider, more voluptuous look, look for ratios around 1.30; for a sleeker, more dramatic profile, ratios closer to 1.50 are ideal.
"Round brilliant is the most popular cut for 1 carat diamonds, maximizing sparkle. Oval cuts appear larger due to their elongated shape. Cushion and princess cuts offer a modern aesthetic. Emerald cuts highlight clarity and step-cut elegance."
"Round brilliant is the most popular cut for 1 carat diamonds, maximizing sparkle. Oval cuts appear larger due to their elongated shape. Cushion and princess cuts offer a modern aesthetic. Emerald cuts highlight clarity and step-cut elegance."
A marquise cut moissanite engagement ring features an elongated oval shape with pointed ends, creating a dramatic, regal silhouette. Also known as the "navette" cut, this shape maximizes carat weight for a larger visual appearance—making a 1-carat marquise appear bigger than a round cut of equivalent weight. Marquise moissanite engagement rings are popular among brides seeking a vintage-inspired, finger-lengthening profile that stands out from traditional round diamonds.
Yes. The elongated shape of a marquise cut moissanite ring creates an illusion of greater size compared to a round brilliant of identical carat weight. The pointed tips extend the visual footprint, often adding 30-40% more perceived surface area. For finger-lengthening effect, the marquise cut engagement ring is unmatched among moissanite shapes, making it ideal for those wanting maximum visual impact per carat.
The ideal ratio for a marquise cut moissanite is between 1.75:1 and 2.25:1. A 1.8:1 ratio provides classic proportions with balanced sparkle, while 2.0:1 creates a more slender, dramatic silhouette. Ratios above 2.25 may compromise brilliance due to reduced facet interaction. For custom moissanite rings, consult our design team to select the perfect ratio for your finger shape and setting style.
Due to the pointed tips, marquise cut moissanite rings require protective settings. V-prong settings at both tips are essential—these wrap around the points to prevent chipping. Bezel settings offer the ultimate protection, encasing the entire stone. Cathedral settings with elevated head designs also reduce snagging risk. For everyday wear, a halo setting with V-tip prongs provides both protection and enhanced brilliance.
A V-prong setting at the pointed tip is essential for protecting the pear cut's vulnerable point. Halo settings beautifully complement the teardrop shape, emphasizing its unique silhouette. Three-stone settings with pear side stones create a stunning bridal look. For maximum security, a bezel setting encases the entire pear stone. Popular metal choices include 14K white gold to highlight the stone's brilliance and rose gold for vintage warmth.
Round moissanite accommodates virtually every setting style. Classic solitaire settings showcase its brilliant facet pattern. Halo settings amplify the visual size dramatically. Three-stone settings with round side stones create a timeless bridal look. Cathedral settings add elegance while securing the head. For modern brides, East-West and tension settings offer contemporary appeal. Each setting complements round moissanite's versatile brilliance.
